Justice For Our Neighbors Houston / East Texas (JFON Houston-ETX) is part of a network of more than 15 locally funded and managed sites that operate approximately 40 church-based immigration legal clinics serving more than 3,000 low-income clients a year.

JFON sites take on a wide range of immigration cases, including asylum cases for those seeking protection from persecution or even death, survivors of human trafficking who  apply for protection, detention cases, and many more.  The Justice For Our Neighbors network also leads immigrant communities to better understand their rights and equip faith communities to respond quickly to emerging threats, such as workplace raids or emerging ministry opportunities created by changes in immigration policy or practice.

Justice For Our Neighbors Houston

Welcome to JFON.

We provide low income individuals and families with affordable, high quality immigration legal services.  We also train volunteers, attorneys, and communities of faith to help us carry out our mission and advocate for the rights of our immigrant neighbors.

Our Impact

In 2017 we provided advice and counsel to more than 225 individuals across our two clinic locations.  Case types included Work Authorization, Family Unification, Fleeing Violence, and Citizenship.

We served several individuals through our DACA workshops and Asylum workshops.

We also provided educational presentations to immigrant communities and faith based organizations.

OUR History

Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON) Houston is part of the JFON network, which consists of 17 locally funded and managed sites throughout the United States that operate approximately 41 immigration legal clinics staffed by 32 immigration attorneys and hundreds of volunteers.

United Methodists in the Houston area, guided by Christian values of hospitality to the stranger, formed JFON Houston in 2014 in response to the need among low-income immigrant communities for high-quality, low-cost immigration services.  The Texas Annual Conference continues to be an integral part of our organization.

JFON’s monthly clinics provide professional legal services to immigrants at minimal or no cost.  Legal services include representation for a variety of immigration cases such as asylum, naturalization, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and support for victims of domestic violence, creating lasting change for individuals and their families.  Community conversations educate immigrant communities about their rights and the complex immigration process through conversations known as charlas.  Education is also provided to receiving communities to better equip them to partner with immigrants in response to changes in immigration policy and practice.
