Gabriela Lopez-Compean left the for-profit legal world to put her talents and passion to work in the non-profit sector. It's not the path most attorneys seek but Gabriela wanted to make a difference in the lives of immigrants regardless of their ability to pay - something she wasn't able to do working for a large firm.
"I came to the United States when I was six years old. Many of my relative and family friends have had to face the difficulties of the immigration system I relate to the difficulties our clients go through, and I am eager to help them in any way I can to achieve their goal of a better life," said Gabriela.
At JFON Houston, Gabriela works with victims of crimes to obtain immigration relief and with families to ensure they can stay together and succeed in the United States.
When she isn't at work, Gabriela enjoys reading (she read 50 books last year!), learning calligraphy and spending time with her family. She also enjoys making homemade tortillas but admits she is still perfecting the art!
